Kevin's 2011 Oscar Predictions 2/22/11 (For the 2010 Films)

2010 was a heck of a year for films. We saw originality come to life with Inception where Christopher Nolan quite possibly changed the way films will be made for years to come. Bold statement? I think not. Nolan's use of minimal CGI to creat realistic action films SHOULD have garnered him a nomination for Best Director. Though, that was not the case. Instead, the Oscars are falling into their normal pattern of going with the easy, cliche Oscar picks. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm psyched to see Inception up for Best Picture, but by not nominating Nolan for director, you are completely diminishing it's chances of winning. As it currently stands, the Best Picture race stands between The King's Speech and The Social Network. Until a few weeks ago, The Social Network was the lock to win Best Picture. The film had taken the Golden Globe, the Critic's Choice and pretty much every critics circle across the country. Then, the unstoppable force that is The King's Speech, won the DGA, the PGA and the SAG award. It was recently awarded the BAFTA award. Though, on interesting note, the BAFTA's awarded David Fincher Best Director. It is looking like there will be a split in those two awards. I am hoping for Best Picture to go to Social Network out of the two.
